Porcelain Veneers
Over time our teeth go through a lot of changes. From braces, stains, stress grinding, and general wear, our teeth can grow dull and may need some help. There are plenty of ways to improve your overall appearance, but there is one way to drastically improve your smile. You can get your smile back by seeking porcelain veneers.
With porcelain veneers, your teeth will appear straighter, whiter, and can form your smile into a more favourable shape. They can truly transform your smile in a matter of a few appointments.
Porcelain veneers are made of a ceramic material that is able to attach to the person’s tooth, giving them an even, enhanced smile. It can be personalized to the patient so there is no doubt among others you have a completely natural smile. They are used for many reasons; everything from cosmetic purposes to covering a chipped tooth that is causing potential oral hygiene issues and discomfort.
Due to their natural-looking appearance, they are one of the most popular areas of cosmetic dentistry. You can have either one tooth covered, to assist with a deformity or damage, or you can have an entire row of teeth replaced.
History
Porcelain veneers have become increasingly popular in the past few decades, but they were originally created in 1920 by a dentist named Dr. Charles Pincus. Dr. Pincus was a famous Hollywood dentist who would apply these veneers to actors smiles, convinced it would give them a more beautiful appearance on the screen.
Unfortunately, these veneers were temporary since the dentist did not have any method of sticking the veneers to the teeth permanently. This made them less accessible and convenient to the public.
It was not until the 1960s that Dr. Michael Bunocore found a way to permanently stick veneers to people’s teeth. The strong bonding agent helped make veneers even more popular. Then in 1982 R.J. Simonsen and J.R. Calamia perfected the veneer process by applying porcelain veneers to patient’s teeth.
Over the years, veneers have been perfected to what we know today. Now everyone is able to have a perfect-looking smile.
Today
Today porcelain veneers have drastically helped patients from every walk of life obtain a beautiful smile. Over the past few decades, the technology has advanced so veneers are easier than ever to obtain. They can now be combined with similar procedures like teeth whitening and dental crowns, to make a combination of work that leaves you with a beautiful smile.
